ABB launches high efficiency motors in three new ranges

2008-10-23 - ABB launches new low voltage AC motors with improved energy efficiency and lifecycle value. At the same time, the company has rearranged its standard motor portfolio into three ranges – General performance motors, Industrial performance motors and Process performance motors.

ABB Australia, the leading power and automation technology group, has launches new low voltage AC motors with improved energy efficiency and lifecycle value. The new motors are available from 0,06 to 95 kW while the frame size starts from 56, going all the way to 250. Larger motors are currently being developed and re-designed. Frame materials include cast iron and aluminum.

The main improvement in these motors, however, can be found in their efficiency values. All motors in the Industrial and Process performance ranges fulfill the EU EFF1, EPAct and the Australian MEPS efficiency requirements, whereas the General performance motors successfully reach the EU EFF2 level.

“With these new motors, we are taking lifecycle values to a new level. In addition to higher efficiency, the new features give a significantly improved reliability and durability factor. The bearing design and cooling have been completely renewed. This new bearing design allows up to 30 percent longer bearing life, and the load capacity can be increased by 60 percent for frame sizes 160-250” says James Carlon, manager for ABB’s motors and machines.

Special attention has also been paid to robustness. In bigger sizes, the aluminum motors are equipped with cast iron end shields, whereas in smaller sizes the main focus has been on the power output efficiency.

At the same time, ABB has rearranged its current low voltage motor portfolio into three ranges. Process performance range offers motors in cast iron frames for the most demanding applications in process industry. They are available in the highest efficiency levels and with all the variants, accessories and technical backup. Industrial performance motors come in aluminum, steel and cast iron frames and provide a wide selection of variants and technical features for OEM customers who appreciate flexibility and tailored solutions. General performance motors have prompt off-the-shelf availability for high volume customers.

With these new ranges, ABB customers have a more convenient task in identifying the right motor for every purpose, along with the right optional features. At the same time, issues such as delivery times and service can be substantially improved. While getting a solution that precisely meets the specific needs every time, ABB customers are now able to enjoy better reliability and efficiency that reaches from the actual operations all the way to the purchasing process.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 115,000 people.
