Global expertise

The ABB Group is a global company without boundaries, acting locally in every one of the more than 100 countries in which we do business. Each of our customers benefits from the sharing of ABB’s research, supply, manufacturing, distribution, information technology and benchmarking capabilities as well as our access to international capital markets and finance.

The Group was originally formed by the 1988 merger of ASEA AB of Sweden (now ABB AB) and Brown Boveri of Switzerland (now ABB AG) and has since grown strongly. ABB Group headquarters are in Zurich, Switzerland, and its shares are traded in Stockholm, Zurich, New York, Frankfurt and London.

As one of the world’s largest engineering and high technology companies, ABB spends more than A$1 billion every year on research and development. We also work on many of the world’s largest industrial and construction projects, from building power plants in Latin America to upgrading the London Underground, creating clean fuel systems for the United States and rolling out eBusiness software tools on the Internet.

ABB’s Australian and New Zealand customers benefit from this through the winning combination of local service and support with global expertise and experience. Whenever we discover something new or find a better way of doing things, this knowledge can be made available instantly to ABB staff and customers worldwide.

Our SupportLine customer call centre also enables us to escalate queries and issues globally 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Consistent performance
ABB ensures that customers receive consistent performance and cost-effective solutions and service worldwide through a global program to optimise processes. This is ABB’s way of ensuring that knowledge is captured, maintained and distributed in a disciplined and productive manner. It also defines how ABB’s toolsets are used and extended, right around the world.

ABB is also used to actively discourage 'reinventing the wheel' and 'not invented here' thinking and behaviour. This guarantees information and insights are shared within ABB and that best practices is readily available for our customers, wherever they are.

Worldwide quality assurance
ABB is committed to delivering first class quality, products, systems and services. We aim to exceed expectations by actively listening to the needs and perceptions of our customers.

We also ensure that our customers are provided with the systems and services they need to comply with the codes, standards, regulatory and other industry requirements - whereever they do business.

In Australia, for instance, ABB has implemented quality assurance to ISO9000 throughout its divisions. All New Zealand divisions and facilities are certified to ISO9001.
