Available Apprenticeships

In 2011 ABB is looking for Electrician, Electrical Fitter and Instrumentation apprentices. These apprenticeships relate to trades used everyday by ABB in a range of divisions. Each year ABB hires 3 to 4 apprentices and through a successful program has retained them for work in a variety of rolls.

Electrician / Switchgear and Control Apprentice (Electrical Fitter)

As an electrician/electrical fitter apprentice your work will involve the assembly, repair, maintenance and installation of transformers, switchgear, control and protection systems and related equipment. You will participate in the wiring and testing of new switchgear and problem solving while repairing equipment during service.

Throughout your apprenticeship you will be rotated through different divisions each supporting different products and requiring different skill sets. See the program bellow for an outline of what types of activities you would be working on.

At TAFE you will study a Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician). As work at the Moorebank site focuses on switch gear and control you will also gain additional experience in this field. After completing the course you could extend your education towards a Certificate IV or complete a dual trade.

Instrumentation and Control Apprentice

As an Instrumentation and Control Apprentice you will work predominantly with the instrumentation division. The division at Moorebank is ABB’s largest in Australia and services the water and process industries.

You will get the opportunity to work with the Flow Rig for calibration of Flow Meters, sophisticated analytical instrumentation used on flue stacks and the rest of wide variety of other process instrumentation manufactured and serviced by ABB. Hands on skills that you learn will be applied during field work installing and customising equipment to meet the variety of our customers requirements.
At TAFE you will study a Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control (UEE31210).

At the conclusion of your apprenticeship you will have a diverse range of skills that can be applied in the areas of electrical supply equipment manufacture and maintenance. Previous apprentices have gone on to complete further education in their or moved to business and project management related roles.
