ABB recognises the importance of a responsive, adaptable and creative workforce if we are to meet the needs and expectations of our customers.
We invest heavily in staff training and development and seek to foster a team-based environment where employees feel challenged and extended by their work.
In the past few years, ABB has doubled its expenditure on education and training for Australian and New Zealand staff. We have also created the web-based Human Resources On-Line System to unify and strengthen our internal HR processes.
These processes focus on:
- Providing a safe and healthy work environment.
- Enhancing job-related competencies which increase productivity and enhance personal growth.
- Adding value to customers through continuous improvement in all business processes.
- Creating shared accountability with line management for effective people practices through innovative employee relations.
Equity and equal opportunity in all aspects of employment.
Another major online initiative is the
ABB University Learning Centre. This a virtual training centre where customers and employees alike can obtain Web-based training across a wide range of office skills and management issues.
We also encourage staff to learn from ABB sister companies overseas, through training, project collaboration and the use of our powerful intranet environment to access the latest intelligence from around the world.
For instance, during the creation of a pioneering conveyor belt system for Worsley Alumina in Western Australia, ABB Switzerland employed an Australian engineering graduate so that the specialist design knowledge generated could later be transferred back to Australia.
Job opportunities within ABB Australia can be found in the
Careers section of this site.
